The MHS Outstanding Thesis Award and the MHS Outstanding Dissertation Award are for a master’s thesis and Ph.D. dissertation on a topic in Mississippi history or biography completed in the past two years. These awards are given biennially.
Submissions will be judged on the basis of the following: originality and sophistication of concept, design, and methodology; compilation and effective use of evidence; clarity and precision of style; and significance of the work's contribution toward an understanding of Mississippi history.
The winner will be selected by the Mississippi Historical Society. Nominations must be submitted by November 1, 2024. Prize winners will be notified before the March 2025 annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society.
